Diagnosing And Treating Dental Implant Complications

Because there are many implant manufacturers, any information you have about the system or design would be beneficial. We always start by examining the implant, evaluating the area around the implant, like the gums and assessing the support structure (the surrounding bone). We may also take further scans and X-rays. By investigating these factors, we should be able to pinpoint the problem, make a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan.

Treatments may include:

• Tightening the crown – In some cases, it may just be that the implant crown has come loose. As a result, it’s often simply a case of tightening the crown using a special screwdriver.
• Redesigning the implant crown – When the restoration crown is chipped, cracked or damaged, we can redesign a new crown and fit you with a replica.
• Deep cleaning – When bacteria are causing a problem in and around the implant, we’ll look to deep clean the area above and below the gum line by gently removing biofilm and tartar using airflow® polishing technology.
• Implant extraction and replacement – In some cases, where the implant itself has been damaged or bone loss is so severe that the implant cannot be saved, we will remove the implant, build up the bone (when necessary), and fit a new implant.
